OPERATIONS OF THE DAY.<\/em> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hoel G\u00e5rd is today a farm hotel, in addition to full agricultural operations. The farm is managed with respect for past and future generations. The farm culture lives on through traditions and activities as part of daily operations. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The farm has 1,350 acres of cultivated land divided between grain and potatoes. The barn also produces 250,000 chickens per year (broilers). <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The farm has an idyllic location on the southern slope down towards Lake Mj\u00f8sa. The listed main building, with a floor area of 350 m2, gives our visitors a sense of large, stately rooms and dimensions, with the planted terrace garden as a very unique setting. The stones in the terrace garden were originally taken from the cathedral gardens in Hamar. The old pig house is actively used every day as a restaurant, reception, conference area and for other events. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to traditional farm operations, businesses, groups and individuals can use the farm facilities for courses\/conferences, weddings, accommodation and exquisite experiences – all year round. We normally have weddings every weekend from the end of April to mid-October, and conferences the rest of the year. We started with individual guests in the summer of 2020 and currently offer this from the end of June to the beginning of August each year. We have our own Skibladner jetty that you can use if you arrive at the farm via Mj\u00f8sa. Skibladner can also dock here if needed. <\/em><\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

We have 75 beds in 37 rooms, and the rooms are offered in the main building, the garden suite in the garden in front of the main building, the porter’s lodgings a stone’s throw from Lake Mj\u00f8sa + the manager’s lodging and the welder’s lodging up in the yard behind the barn.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current owners, Sabine and Christian Fredrik, work daily to develop the farm and the concept to match current demand and needs. They spend a lot of time and resources on renovation, development and sharpening the concept to exploit the potential of the farm to the full. In the fall of 2024, we opened a new bathhouse with a fitness room and fireplace lounge a stone’s throw from Lake Mj\u00f8sa, a separate sauna, steam room and more. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are also a member of De Historiske Hotell og Spisesteder (The Historic Hotels and Restaurants), which we are proud of and which is a seal of quality we work for every single day. In 2023, we were voted top 3 out of a total of 66 historic hotels in Norway. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE FARM HISTORY OF HOEL FARM.<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hoel G\u00e5rd is mentioned in writing for the first time in a papal letter from around 1390. However, artifacts have been found on the farm that indicate settlement from the 600s and are preserved on the farm. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The farm was owned by the church until 1537 and then by the Crown until the end of the 17th century. It then became privately owned and a family tradition of almost 200 years followed. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halvor Hoel has been called the first true Norwegian peasant chieftain and was one of the drivers of this period. He led the local farmers’ fight against the civil service and the silver tax after 1814. His good-natured ghost can still be seen on the farm and his funeral wreath in the attic must not be touched. According to the legend, both the farm and the land could go wrong. In 1867, the farm was sold to Peter Wessel Wind Kildahl. He carried out an extensive rebuilding and planted the linden avenue of about 1600 meters. He also built the U-shaped barn with a floor area of around 3,000 square meters and beautiful bell towers. These have become a hallmark of the farm. In 1932, the farm came into the Sandberg family’s ownership and is now run by the fourth generation – Sabine and Christian Fredrik Sandberg Hoel. <\/em><\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

  • Hoel G\u00e5rd is located around 1 hour and 5 minutes from Oslo Airport and 1 hour and 40 minutes from Oslo City Centre.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Drive the E6 north until you have passed Brumunddal. Then take exit no. 73 towards Nes. Follow fv 212 until you reach fv 213, then turn left onto fv 213.
